  • Who Should Attend This Course: Entry and competency in relation to confined spaces is legally covered in the Confined Space Regulations 1997 which requires persons who work in prescribed confined spaces are to be properly trained, in the hazards and risk and control measures associated with their work while in confined spaces.
  • This training applies to everyone within the workplace who puts people to work or works in confined spaces and would also benefit managers and supervisors in order that they understand their duties and responsibilities.
  • Instructor Ratio: 12 x trainees (maximum) per Instructor
  • Course Duration: 1 day Training Course
  • Location: Training can be delivered on-site and off-site depending on your requirements; training delivered on-site will be more advantageous to the trainees as the training can be specific to their workplace activities.

Aims of the course

The aim of the course is to provide adequate training for the purposes of Health and Safety for persons involved in working within confined spaces in their workplace, the course includes a competency assessment which is fully supervised by the instructor.

Course Content

  • Trainees will have an understanding of course aims and objectives
  • Have a clear understanding of their responsibilities under Health and Safety Law and other relevant legislation i.e. Confined Space regulations 1997
  • Have a clear understanding of the term Confined Space
  • Identify the specified risks associated with confined space activities
  • Confined Space accident statistics/ ratios
  • Understand the principles for controlling entry into confined spaces and apply them within their workplace
  • Organise and implement control measures to either eliminate or reduce risks
  • Organise and implement appropriate accident and emergency arrangements and procedures
  • Identify the range of confined space equipment required for entry into a confined space
  • Provide a grounding for prior leaning for the CS(1), CS(2) and CS (3) courses
  • Completing confined space risk assessments (if applicable)
  • Assess their own work place confined space activities and develop safer methods and tasks in co-operation with their supervisors / managers
  • Correct use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
  • Theory and Practical assessments, including escape BA set training (if applicable)

Prerequisites for this course

Operatives should be medically fit including good eyesight and hearing.

Achievement Measurement for this course

The training is carried out in accordance with Accredited Standards s includes both theory and practical assessments leading to each trainee being issued a certificate of attendance.
